The transport of people and goods provides a serious challenge to society. Developments in transport shape the world we live in and significantly influence the economic and social well-being of communities. There is a growing need for transport specialists to plan, design, construct and maintain the world's airports, bridges, roads, railways, docks, pipelines and canals. National and local government and the private sector increasingly require specialists who can contribute to the development of new transport strategies: our MSc programme is designed to help meet this need.

In recent years, the transportation planning profession has become increasingly aware of the importance of mid-career training of those already working as transport planners and engineers. Great efforts have also been made to make transport planning a recognised and attractive career path for those attending university or for those following a vocational route. The Institutions which traditionally have included transport planners among their members have striven to acknowledge a wider spread of first-degrees for those seeking chartered status.

A time of financial constraint is certainly a challenge to those offering services, but it is also a very good opportunity for organisations to use the time to ensure that their workforce is well-trained and equipped for the time, in the fairly near future, when the economy has recovered.

Training for Transportation Professionals has been formed to deliver excellent and cost-effective training on topics of immediate need to those working in the public and private sectors.

TfTP will deliver training of topical importance at competitive rates.

A strength of TfTP will be the organisation of bespoke training courses to organisations or groups of organisations which have a specific training need. If these can be held in-house, substantial savings can be made making this a very cost-effective way of enhancing staff capabilities. Programmes will be designed to serve the specific needs of the customer and experienced lecturers and tutors can be found from throughout the UK, as needed.

TfTP will draw on the services of experienced lecturers from the public and private sectors and from academia. The organisation of the events will be done in conjunction with Sally Scarlett Associates.
